Lakenheath Fen is a thriving wetland reserve located on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, transforming former farmland into a vibrant habitat of reedbeds, marshes, and woodlands. Managed by the RSPB, this 500-hectare site supports a diverse range of wildlife, including Kingfishers, Common Cranes, and Otters. The reserve is part of a network of fenland reserves, contributing to the region's natural character and ecological diversity. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year, with notable sightings peaking in January, particularly Water Pipits and Whooper Swans around 13:00. March brings the arrival of Garganey, while July is the best time to spot the elusive Eurasian Bittern at around 16:00. For those interested in winter visitors, Kingfishers are best observed in November, especially around 01:00.
