Isley Marsh is an internationally recognised saltmarsh reserve located on the southern edge of the Taw Torridge estuary. Comprising saltmarsh and intertidal mudflats, it serves as a vital refuge for feeding and resting birds, particularly during the winter months. The reserve is designed to provide undisturbed areas for wildlife, making it an important habitat for various species, including significant flocks of ducks and waders. Visitors can expect to see a variety of birdlife, especially during the winter months when Eurasian Spoonbills, Curlew, and Dunlin are present. The best time to visit is during incoming tides, which brings birds closer to the shore for better viewing. Additionally, March is noted for peak activity, with sightings of species like the Marmalade Hoverfly and Eristalis tenax also observed during this time.
