Hesketh Out Marsh is a vital part of the Ribble Estuary National Reserve, showcasing a rare saltmarsh habitat that has been thoughtfully restored through managed realignment. Located in Lancashire, this reserve plays a crucial role in providing flood resilience while supporting diverse wildlife, including Pink-footed Geese, Wigeons, Redshanks, and Lapwings. The restoration efforts, completed in 2017, have transformed former agricultural land into a thriving ecosystem. Visitors can expect to see a variety of bird species, particularly in March when activity peaks. Notable sightings include Carrion Crows, Common Chaffinches, and House Sparrows, all best observed around midnight. Additionally, Greylag Geese are more prominent in January, while Starlings peak in October. This dynamic environment offers a unique opportunity to witness the rich avian life that thrives in restored saltmarsh habitats.
