Hayle Estuary, located in west Cornwall, is a stunning natural harbour and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This diverse habitat features tidal pools and marshes, providing an ideal environment for a variety of wetland birds. Managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the estuary is perfect for leisurely exploration along the South West Coast Path, making it a delightful spot for both nature enthusiasts and visitors to the town of Hayle. Winter is the prime time to visit, with large flocks of Teals and Wigeons arriving, alongside the chance to spot a vagrant Ring-billed Gull. January is particularly noteworthy, showcasing peak sightings of species like Greenshank, Bar-tailed Godwit, and Black-bellied Plover, often best observed around 15:00. Spring and autumn also offer opportunities to see migrating wading birds, while summer may reward visitors with a glimpse of an Osprey.
