Greylake is a diverse wetland reserve located in the heart of the Somerset Levels and moors, featuring habitats such as reedbed, open water, and wet grassland. This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is ideal for observing a variety of wildlife, with well-maintained trails and hides providing excellent viewing opportunities throughout the year. The reserve's management practices, including water level adjustments and habitat maintenance, ensure a thriving environment for both flora and fauna. Winter is the prime time to visit Greylake, with January being the best month for birdwatching. Look out for the Baikal Teal and Common Crane, with peak sightings occurring around midday and mid-afternoon, respectively. Other highlights include the elusive Water Rail and Bearded Reedling, both best spotted in January. As spring approaches, keep an ear out for Cetti's Warbler and watch for the majestic Eurasian Bittern at dusk in March, making Greylake a year-round haven for nature enthusiasts.
