Garston Wood is a 34-hectare ancient woodland nature reserve located in Cranborne Chase, Dorset, near the Wiltshire border. Owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), this diverse habitat features managed coppices and scrubland, providing a haven for various wildlife species. The RSPB actively manages the reserve to support breeding birds and enhance visitor experiences through events and volunteer opportunities. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as Gray Partridge and Short-eared Owl, with peak sightings occurring in February and December, respectively. January is particularly active for birds like Rooks and Kestrels, best observed at dusk around 17:00. Spring brings vibrant Bluebells and the melodic calls of Nightingales, making mid-April to late May an ideal time to visit for both flora and fauna.
