Freiston Shore is a stunning nature reserve located along The Wash, the UK's largest bay and a vital estuary for birds. This area features rich saltmarsh habitats and has been enhanced through the conversion of coastal farmland into tidal saltmarsh, providing an excellent environment for diverse wildlife. Visitors can explore 8 km of trails that wind through this remarkable landscape, where waders, ducks, and geese can be spotted, along with birds of prey soaring overhead. Wildlife enthusiasts will find Freiston Shore particularly rewarding in January, when peak activity occurs at dawn around 08:00. Look for Pink-footed Geese and Spotted Redshanks, as well as Little Grebes and Goldeneyes during this time. The spring months bring the lively sight of 'mad' March Hares, while summer offers opportunities to see Ringed Plovers. For those interested in observing large groups of waders, high tide is the best time to visit the saltwater lagoon.
