Fowlsheugh is a coastal nature reserve located in Kincardineshire, northeast Scotland, renowned for its dramatic 70-metre-high cliffs and extensive seabird colonies. As part of a Special Protection Area (SPA) and designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), it boasts over 115,000 breeding seabirds during the spring and summer months. Visitors can explore the public clifftop trail or access the site by boat from nearby Stonehaven, enjoying breathtaking views of the coastline and seabirds. The best time to visit Fowlsheugh for seabird watching is from May to early August, when species such as Kittiwakes, Puffins, and Razorbills are most active. Notable sightings peak in July for Kittiwakes around 01:00, while Puffins are best observed in March. For those interested in other wildlife, February is an excellent month to spot Yellowhammers and Tree Sparrows, particularly at dusk and dawn, respectively. The reserve also offers opportunities to see Grey Seals and dolphins in the waters below.
