Dove Stone

Dove Stone is a stunning nature reserve located within the Peak District National Park, featuring dramatic landscapes, open moorland, and a picturesque 2.5-mile walk around Dove Stone reservoir. This area is home to a variety of habitats, including internationally important blanket bogs, grasslands, and woodlands, all of which support diverse wildlife. The reserve is managed in collaboration with United Utilities, focusing on habitat restoration and conservation efforts. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as Curlews, Golden Plovers, and Mountain Hares, particularly in the winter when Hares are easily spotted in their white coats. May is the best month for observing a range of species, including Red-legged Partridges, Meadow Pipits, and Black-headed Gulls, with peak activity around 1:00 AM. Additionally, dragonflies, damselflies, and various butterflies can be seen throughout the warmer months, making Dove Stone a vibrant destination for nature lovers.
