Crook of Baldoon is a stunning nature reserve located in the Galloway region, featuring a diverse landscape of saltmarsh, mudflats, and hills. The reserve, which has been under restoration since 2010, supports a rich variety of birdlife and is framed by the Cairnsmore of Fleet and Galloway Hills. It is an important habitat for breeding Lapwing and Redshank, making it a designated area for wildlife conservation. Birdwatchers can expect to see a range of species throughout the year, with notable sightings including Little Egrets and Pink-footed Geese. The best time to visit is during April, when activity peaks for several species like Barnacle Geese, Mute Swans, and Moorhens. Winter months from December to March also attract thousands of winter visitors, including Barnacle and Pink-footed Geese, making it an ideal time for observing these magnificent birds.
