Consall Woods is a stunning nature reserve set in a steep-sided valley alongside the River Churnet, offering a rich mix of wood pasture, pools, and mature woodland. Spanning 479 acres, it is carefully managed to support a diverse range of wildlife, making it an ideal location for nature walks. The reserve is characterized by its mosaic of trees of various species, ages, and sizes, alongside grassland meadows that are maintained through traditional grazing and hay-making methods. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year. March is particularly rewarding, with peak activity for Brown Hares, Otters, and Indian Muntjacs, best observed around midnight. In autumn, Dippers and Grey Wagtails may be spotted by the river, while winter brings the chance to see Willow and Marsh Tits. For those interested in nocturnal wildlife, Little Owls are best observed at dusk in November, making Consall Woods a year-round destination for nature lovers.
