Canvey Wick is a 93.2-hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest located on the south-west corner of Canvey Island in Essex. This unique ex-industrial habitat features a diverse mix of grassland, scrub, and important estuarine environments, supporting a rich array of plant and insect species. It is particularly significant for endangered invertebrates, including the rare Shrill Carder Bee and Brown-banded Carder Bee, and is managed in partnership with Buglife and the Land Trust. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of bird species throughout the year, with notable peaks in February for Teal, Mallard, and Mute Swan, typically around midnight. January is a great time to spot Greater White-fronted Goose and Wigeon, while March brings opportunities to observe Avocets and Black-headed Gulls. For a different experience, visit in July to catch a glimpse of the Corn Bunting around midday.
