Campfield Marsh is a diverse wetland reserve located on the shores of the Solway Firth, one of the UK’s largest estuaries. This area features a rich mosaic of habitats, including saltmarsh, peat bogs, farmland, and wet grassland, making it a vital sanctuary for various wildlife species. The reserve is managed to enhance conditions for its inhabitants, supporting both wintering wildfowl and breeding waders throughout the year. For wildlife enthusiasts, the best times to visit are during winter when thousands of Teal, Wigeon, and Barnacle Geese gather, particularly around January. High tides in autumn and spring provide excellent opportunities to observe wading birds like Oystercatchers and Curlews. In summer, the peat bog comes alive with dragonflies, while the late afternoon is ideal for spotting Eurasian Tree Sparrows in August.
