Budby South Forest is a remarkable nature reserve showcasing the largest area of historic heathland in the Midlands, complemented by ancient woodlands. This medieval landscape is a haven for diverse wildlife, with habitats that include open heath, scrub, and woodlands. The reserve is committed to preserving these environments, ensuring that both the flora and fauna can thrive. Visitors can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year. Notable sightings include the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, peaking in March, and the Tree Pipit, best observed at dusk in May. June is particularly vibrant, with activity from Grey Squirrels, Woodpigeons, and Goldcrests peaking around 1:00 AM. Winter brings flocks of Redpolls and Goldcrests, while the summer months attract butterflies and moths across the heath.
