Buckenham Marshes

Buckenham Marshes is a stunning RSPB nature reserve situated on the northern bank of the River Yare in Norfolk, approximately 8 miles southeast of Norwich. This expansive wetland area features a diverse mosaic of marshland, reedbeds, and grazing pastures, making it an essential habitat for a variety of wildlife. The reserve is part of the Mid-Yare National Nature Reserve and the Yare Broads and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest, ensuring its protection and management for the benefit of both flora and fauna. Visitors can expect to see a rich array of birdlife, particularly during peak months such as March for Ruff and Bearded Tit, with sightings best at dusk around 20:00. Other notable species include Pink-footed Goose in August and Western Marsh Harrier in September, both also best observed at dusk. The reserve is home to an impressive rookery, with thousands of Rooks gathering in winter, making it a vibrant spot for birdwatching throughout the year.
