Bowling Green and Goosemoor is a picturesque nature reserve located at the junction of the River Exe and River Clyst, near Topsham. This area features winding waterways and is renowned for its diverse birdlife, making it an ideal spot for birdwatching. Visitors can enjoy the comfort of the Lookout hide, which offers excellent views of both resident and migratory species. The reserve is part of the RSPB network, with Goosemoor located just east, accessible via a short walk under the railway bridge. Autumn and winter are particularly vibrant at Bowling Green Marsh, with notable flocks of Redshanks, Greenshanks, and Curlews arriving for high-tide roosting. January is the best month for birdwatching, with peak activity around midnight. Look out for Long-billed Dowitchers and Northern Pintails in February, with sightings peaking around 10:00 and 16:00 respectively. The reserve is also home to Black-tailed Godwits and Pied Avocets, making it a must-visit for bird enthusiasts throughout the colder months.
