Baron's Haugh is a vibrant community nature reserve located in Motherwell, featuring diverse wetland habitats and extensive woodlands. This dynamic environment is designed to support a variety of wildlife, including birds, amphibians, and insects. The reserve encourages fluctuating water levels and grazing by cattle, which enhances biodiversity and creates essential habitats for numerous species. Visitors can look forward to spotting a range of birds throughout the year, with peak activity in July. Notable species include Gadwall, Eurasian Coot, and Teal, all best observed around midnight. August is an excellent time to catch a glimpse of the elusive Kingfisher, while the Tawny Owl can be heard hooting in the woods. For the best experience, visit during the early morning or late afternoon when wildlife is most active.
