Swansea Canal Local Nature Reserve

Swansea Canal Local Nature Reserve is a historic waterway located in South Wales, stretching approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) of navigable canal. Originally constructed between 1794 and 1798, it features steep gradients and 36 locks, showcasing its engineering significance. While much of the canal has been filled in, the remaining sections provide a unique habitat for various wildlife and are part of ongoing restoration efforts led by the Swansea Canal Society. Wildlife sightings data for the Swansea Canal is currently sparse, but visitors can expect to encounter a variety of flora and fauna typical of freshwater habitats. The best time to visit is during the warmer months when the surrounding vegetation is lush and wildlife is more active.
