St Cyrus National Nature Reserve, located on the north-east coast of Scotland, is a stunning coastal habitat that spans 92 hectares. This National Nature Reserve (NNR) features a narrow strip of land bordered by cliffs and dunes, creating a unique environment for a diverse range of flora and fauna. Declared in 1962 and managed by NatureScot, it is renowned for its rich botanical diversity, supporting over 300 plant species and providing essential habitats for various wildlife. Visitors can enjoy a wealth of wildlife throughout the year, with peak activity in August when species like the Meadow Brown butterfly and Red-breasted Merganser are most frequently observed. Notable sightings include winter visitors such as Common Scoter and Pink-footed Goose, best seen in January. Birdwatchers should look for Yellowhammer at dusk in June and Kittiwake during July evenings. The reserve is ideal for leisurely walks, offering opportunities to appreciate both the natural beauty and the vibrant wildlife.
