Cragbank Wood Nature Reserve is a stunning native woodland located in the Scottish Borders, characterized by its steep gorge slopes and rich biodiversity. As the largest area of ancient ash–elm–hazel woodland in the region, it is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of the Borders Woods Special Area of Conservation. Visitors can access the reserve via the Forestry & Land Scotland car park at Hells Hole, Wauchope Forest. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of species, with peak sightings of Red Grouse in January around 13:00. Other notable species include Northern Wheatear in July at dusk, and Red-legged Partridge in February around 16:00. Spring months also bring sightings of Graylag Goose and Curlew, while September is a good time to spot Eurasian Jay. The diverse habitats of Cragbank Wood make it a rewarding destination for nature lovers throughout the year.
