Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve, located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, comprises six distinct woodland sites along a 12 km stretch of the River Clyde. This NNR features ancient, semi-natural deciduous woodlands, including oak, ash, rowan, and hazel, nestled within steep-sided river gorges. The reserve is easily accessible to around two million people from nearby urban areas, providing a tranquil escape to explore rich habitats that support diverse wildlife. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy a variety of wildlife, with notable sightings including grey squirrels, which peak in October, and red kites in March. The best times for observing activity are typically around 01:00. In addition, look out for waxwings in November and jackdaws and great spotted woodpeckers in June. The vibrant spring wildflowers and stunning autumn colours further enhance the experience at this remarkable reserve.
