Abernethy National Nature Reserve is a stunning expanse of diverse habitats, including ancient Caledonian pinewoods, moorland, wetlands, and mountainous terrain. Located from the River Nethy to the summit of Ben Macdui on the Cairngorm plateau, it is one of Scotland's largest and most significant nature reserves. Managed by RSPB Scotland and NatureScot, Abernethy offers a variety of walking trails and opportunities to connect with nature. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting species such as the Crested Tit, which is best observed in February around 10:00, and the White-throated Dipper, peaking in June at dusk. August is an excellent time for sightings of Brown Hares and Roe Deer, both most active around 01:00. With a rich variety of birds and mammals, Abernethy provides year-round opportunities for wildlife watching, particularly in the early morning and at dusk.
