Cleddon Bog Local Nature Reserve

Cleddon Bog Local Nature Reserve, located in Monmouthshire within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a biologically significant Site of Special Scientific Interest. Declared a Local Nature Reserve in May 1970, it features a unique habitat of boggy heathland and woodland, supporting a diverse range of flora including the endemic bramble Rubus trelleckensis, cranberry, and heath spotted orchid. The reserve is particularly noted for its lepidoptera species, making it a key site for butterflies and moths in eastern Wales. While specific sightings data is sparse, Cleddon Bog is known for its diversity of butterfly and moth species, with 57 nationally notable or local species recorded. Visitors may encounter important species such as the Bilberry Pug and Welsh wave moths, although some species have seen declines in recent years.
