Lough Boora Nature Reserve in Co. Offaly spans 50 hectares, encompassing the remnants of a once-vibrant ancient lake. The area, which has been left undisturbed since its acquisition by the Irish Wildlife Trust, features diverse habitats such as purple moor grass, reed beds, and native deciduous birch woods. This unique landscape not only supports wildlife but also holds archaeological significance, with evidence of a Mesolithic settlement dating back to 6500 BC found nearby.
