Weeting Heath National Nature Reserve

Weeting Heath National Nature Reserve is a 141.8-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest located west of Thetford in Norfolk, England. Managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, it is a Grade I Nature Conservation Review site and a National Nature Reserve, also part of the Breckland Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area. The reserve features grass and lichen heath, grazed by rabbits, and supports a high density of breeding birds, including the notable stone-curlew. For wildlife enthusiasts, January is the prime month for birdwatching, with peak sightings of species such as Chaffinch, Long-tailed Tit, and Blackbird, often observed around midnight. Other notable species include Blue Tit in March and Treecreeper in October. Visitors can also look for Goldcrest in February and Jackdaw along with Woodpigeon in May, making these months particularly rewarding for spotting diverse birdlife.
