Swanton Novers National Nature Reserve

Swanton Novers National Nature Reserve, located east of Fakenham in Norfolk, encompasses 83 hectares of ancient woodland, including Swanton Great Wood and Little Wood. Recognised as a Grade I Nature Conservation Review site and a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest, it features a rich diversity of trees and ground flora, including the nationally rare May lily. While the site is currently closed to the public, main public footpaths remain accessible for exploration. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for species such as Roe Deer and various birds including Woodpigeon, Whitethroat, and Swallow, with peak activity occurring in June around 01:00. April is also notable for sightings of Hairy Wood-rush and Small-leaved Lime. The best time to visit for wildlife observation is during the early hours, particularly in June when many species are most active.
