Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve

Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve is a significant wildlife area located on the North Sea coast in Suffolk, encompassing 1,340 hectares around the village of Walberswick, south of Southwold. Designated in 2003, it combines the Walberswick National Nature Reserve with Dingle Marshes and Hen Reedbeds. Managed by Natural England alongside the RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust, the reserve is part of the Minsmere-Walberswick Heaths and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest, featuring Natura 2000 and Ramsar designations. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species, particularly in July when activity peaks for common earwigs and field grasshoppers, best observed around 01:00. Other notable sightings include meadow grasshoppers in June and teal in February. The reserve's diverse habitats provide opportunities to spot both common and migratory birds, making it a rewarding destination for nature watchers throughout the year.
