Scoska Wood National Nature Reserve

Scoska Wood National Nature Reserve is a managed ancient woodland located in Littondale, North Yorkshire. Recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) since 1975 and designated as an IUCN Category IV area in 1992, it features a rich array of ash trees, grasses, and diverse moth species, making it a significant habitat for wildlife management. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for the Chalk Comb-moss and Downy Veilwort, both peaking in February around midnight. Additionally, the Pterostichus niger beetle is notable in September, with activity peaking around 1 AM. Visiting during these peak times offers the best chance to observe these unique species in their natural habitat.
