Saltwells National Nature Reserve

Saltwells National Nature Reserve, located in the Netherton area of Dudley, West Midlands, spans 247 acres and features diverse habitats including Saltwells Wood and part of Netherton Hill. Established in 1981, it encompasses two Sites of Special Scientific Interest and a scheduled ancient monument, making it a significant area for both wildlife and heritage conservation. Visitors can expect to see a variety of bird species, particularly in February when activity peaks around midnight. Look for Blue Tits, Coal Tits, and Robins, as well as Mute Swans in April. The reserve also hosts unique insects like the Swollen-thighed Beetle, which is best observed in May.
