Rhos Llawr Cwrt National Nature Reserve

Rhos Llawr Cwrt National Nature Reserve is located in the Clettwr valley, approximately 10 kilometres from the Ceredigion coast, nestled between Ffostrasol and Talgarreg. This landscape, shaped by glacial activity, features unique landforms known as pingos, remnants of the last Ice Age. The reserve is internationally significant for hosting one of the best populations of the marsh fritillary butterfly in Wales, making it a vital habitat for this species. Visitors to the reserve can expect to see a variety of wildlife, particularly in June when activity peaks. Notable species include the Beautiful Demoiselle, Swallow, and Willow Warbler, all best observed around 01:00. During this time, the reserve comes alive with the fluttering of thousands of marsh fritillary butterflies, offering a spectacular display for nature enthusiasts.
