Newborough Warren and Ynys Llanddwyn National Nature Reserve

Newborough Warren and Ynys Llanddwyn National Nature Reserve, located near the village of Newborough in Anglesey, Wales, encompasses a vast dune and beach system of 2,269 hectares. This diverse habitat features a mix of coastal dunes, conifer plantations, and stunning bays, including Llanddwyn Bay and Malltraeth Bay. The entire area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with the exception of the forest, and is part of the Anglesey Coastal Path, making it a significant site for conservation and recreation. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of species throughout the year. Notable sightings include the Marmalade Hoverfly peaking in July, and the Common Toad in November. April is an excellent month for spotting Buzzards and Coltsfoot, while May brings an abundance of activity, including Magpies and various beetles. For the best chances of seeing these species, early morning visits around 01:00 are recommended, particularly in May when wildlife activity is at its peak.
