Muckle Moss National Nature Reserve

Muckle Moss is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a National Nature Reserve located near Bardon Mill in Northumberland, England. This unique habitat features a mire over deep peat and includes the adjacent Blackdyke Plantation. The reserve's ecological importance is underscored by its designation as part of the Roman Wall SSSI, making it a significant area for both wildlife and conservation efforts. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing various bird species, particularly in March when activity peaks, especially around 01:00. Notable sightings include the Lesser Black-backed Gull and Meadow Pipit. Other species such as the Greylag Goose and Tufted Duck can be spotted in October and November, respectively.
