Morfa Harlech National Nature Reserve

Morfa Harlech National Nature Reserve, located north of Harlech in Wales, is a significant natural area featuring expansive sand dunes and coastal habitats. This reserve is notable for being the only actively growing dune system in Wales, covering 6 km², with approximately 1.5 km² afforested with Corsican Pine. The dunes are part of the Meirionnydd coastline and are in proximity to the historic Harlech Castle, which has been affected by the shifting sands over the centuries. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of species throughout the year, with notable peaks in activity during specific months. April is the best time to spot Pine Martens, while August is ideal for observing Robins. November offers opportunities to see Mallards and Turnstones, and March is a standout month for both Blue Tits and Oystercatchers. Early morning is generally the best time for sightings, particularly around midnight.
