Magilligan Point National Nature Reserve

Magilligan Point National Nature Reserve is a vast coastal site located at the mouth of Lough Foyle in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Spanning 79,000 acres (32,000 hectares), this unique peninsula combines military firing range areas with rich natural habitats. The reserve features diverse coastal ecosystems and is situated less than a mile from Greencastle in County Donegal, connected by a ferry service. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year, with peak activity in July when Meadow Browns and Common Blues are most frequently observed. August is notable for Oystercatchers and Sandwich Terns, while March brings sightings of Hooded Crows and Herring Gulls. Early morning visits around 01:00 are particularly rewarding for spotting these species, making it an ideal time for birdwatching and enjoying the reserve's natural beauty.
