Holkham National Nature Reserve

Holkham National Nature Reserve, one of England's largest national nature reserves, spans 3,900 hectares along the Norfolk coast between Burnham Overy Staithe and Blakeney. Managed by Natural England in collaboration with the Holkham Estate, it features diverse habitats such as grazing marsh, woodland, salt marsh, sand dunes, and foreshore. The reserve is designated as part of the North Norfolk Coast Site of Special Scientific Interest and is also protected under Natura 2000, SPA, Ramsar listings, and is included in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a World Biosphere Reserve. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife throughout the year, with notable sightings including Brent Geese in March and Canada Geese in January. Spring is particularly vibrant, with peaks in observations of Woodpigeons and Goldcrests in April, and Buzzards in May. Autumn brings migrating birds, while the dunes host unique invertebrates and plants. The best times for wildlife watching are often around midnight, especially in September and May, when activity peaks for several species.
