Gordano Valley National Nature Reserve

Gordano Valley National Nature Reserve, located in North Somerset, is a designated area of significant biological and geological interest, spanning 161.68 hectares. The valley features a unique landscape of reclaimed land, characterized by its triangular shape and bordered by Carboniferous limestone ridges. It includes several villages and is home to various nature reserves managed by the Avon Wildlife Trust, making it a vital habitat for diverse wildlife. Visitors to Gordano Valley can expect to see a variety of butterfly species, particularly in July when Meadow Browns and Gatekeepers are most active. Other notable sightings include Brimstones in April and Red Admirals in June. The best time for observation across species is around 01:00, with peak activity noted during the summer months. Birdwatchers may also spot Reed Warblers in September, adding to the reserve's rich biodiversity.
