Dinnet Oakwood National Nature Reserve

Dinnet Oakwood National Nature Reserve is a Designated Special Area of Conservation located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, approximately 9 miles from Aboyne and 6 miles from Ballater. Owned by Scottish Natural Heritage, this reserve features a rich variety of habitats, including ancient oak woodlands, which provide a vital sanctuary for numerous species. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for Red Squirrels, particularly active in January, with peak sightings around midnight. Spring is an excellent time to visit for observing Long-tailed Tits, Greylag Geese, Grey Herons, and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, all peaking in April. Additionally, Roe Deer sightings peak in May, while the Broken-belted Bumblebee can be spotted in September, making Dinnet Oakwood a year-round destination for nature lovers.
