Dengie National Nature Reserve

Dengie National Nature Reserve spans 12 square miles (3,105 hectares) between the Blackwater and Crouch estuaries near Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex. This significant biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest is also designated as a National Nature Reserve, Special Protection Area, and Ramsar site, highlighting its international importance. The reserve features extensive tidal mud-flats and salt marshes, with a portion managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust, offering a diverse range of habitats. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for a variety of bird species, particularly during March when Grey Plovers are most frequently observed. The best time to visit is around midnight, when activity peaks. Other notable species include Bar-tailed Godwits, Hen Harriers, and Oystercatchers, making Dengie a prime location for birdwatching throughout the year.
