Crymlyn Bog and Pant Y Sais National Nature Reserve

Crymlyn Bog, or Cors Crymlyn, is a National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest located near Swansea, south Wales. As the largest area of lowland fen in Wales, it features diverse habitats including swamps, water meadows, and reed beds, supporting a range of plant species, some of which are rare in Great Britain. Notable flora includes slender cotton grass and lesser water plantain, while the reserve is also home to the fen raft spider, found in only a few locations across the UK. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of species throughout the year, with February being the best month for sightings. During this time, you may observe buzzards, common frogs, and mallards, particularly around midnight. Other notable species include the western honey bee and common carder bee, which peak in May and July, respectively. The reserve is a haven for wetland birds, making it an excellent destination for birdwatching, especially in the early morning hours.
