Cotswold Commons and Beechwoods National Nature Reserve

Cotswold Commons and Beechwoods National Nature Reserve is a 665.5-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest located in Gloucestershire, within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This diverse habitat features a mix of woodlands and grasslands, and is part of a Special Area of Conservation under the EU Habitats Directive. The reserve includes both the National Nature Reserve and Cooper's Hill Local Nature Reserve, with portions registered as common land and managed by the National Trust. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting species such as the 7-spot Ladybird, Robin, and Great Tit, which peak in activity during January. The summer months bring the Meadow Brown and Chalk Hill Blue butterflies, while spring showcases blooming Ramsons and Great Spotted Woodpeckers. For the best chances of sightings, early morning visits around midnight or early hours are recommended, particularly in January when overall activity is at its highest.
