Cors Erddreiniog National Nature Reserve

Cors Erddreiniog National Nature Reserve, the largest of the Anglesey fens, is a designated SSSI located near Capel Coch, just 5 kilometres west of Benllech. This diverse habitat features extensive reed beds, woodlands, and small lakes, making it a vital area for various wildlife species. The reserve has been praised as the "Jewel in the crown of the Anglesey fens" by the former Countryside Council for Wales. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to spotting a variety of birds, particularly in January when species like Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, and Woodpigeon are most active. Dusk is a great time to see barn owls hunting, while May brings opportunities to observe Sedge Warblers and Song Thrushes. With 15 types of dragonflies and damselflies recorded, the reserve is a haven for insect lovers as well.
