Coed Gorswen National Nature Reserve

Coed Gorswen National Nature Reserve is situated on the lower slopes of the Conwy Valley, near Rowen and Llanbedr-y-Cennin. This tranquil area features small woodlands, grazed fields, and a network of hedgerows, creating a picturesque lowland landscape. The presence of large boulders, remnants of Ice Age activity, adds a unique character to the reserve, which has helped protect its woodlands from extensive human development over the centuries. Wildlife enthusiasts can look forward to observing a variety of species, particularly in November when activity peaks for several mosses and liverworts, including Lesser Featherwort and Western Pouncewort. Birdwatchers may spot Great Tits and Blue Tits in May, while August is ideal for seeing St Winifrid's Moss and Long-beaked Water Feather-moss. The best times for sightings generally occur around midnight for many species, making late-night visits particularly rewarding.
