Coed Ganllwyd National Nature Reserve

Coed Ganllwyd National Nature Reserve, located behind the village of Ganllwyd in Wales, is a stunning area of broadleaved deciduous trees surrounded by conifer plantations. This National Nature Reserve features a steep wooded gorge and the striking ‘Rhaeadr Ddu’ waterfall. Renowned for its rich diversity, it is considered the richest site in Western Europe for mosses and liverworts and serves as a vital habitat for rare species, including the lesser horseshoe bat. Wildlife enthusiasts can look out for various species throughout the year, with peak observations in May, particularly for the Dipper and Wood Warbler. March is an excellent time to spot Wood Ants and Common Frogs, while August offers the chance to see Pine Martens. The lesser horseshoe bat is best observed in June, and for those interested in migratory birds, Redwings are typically seen in October.
