Calthorpe Broad National Nature Reserve

Calthorpe Broad National Nature Reserve, located east of Stalham in Norfolk, spans 43.5 hectares and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Grade I Nature Conservation Review site, and part of the Broadland Ramsar site. This national nature reserve features a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including notable water plants such as mare's-tail, water violet, and the nationally scarce water soldier. As a private site, it does not offer public access. For wildlife enthusiasts, May is the best month to visit, with peak activity for species like the Reed Warbler and Carrion Crow around 1:00 AM. Other notable sightings include the Buzzard in November and various insects in July, such as the Peacock butterfly and Helophilus pendulus. While access is restricted, the rich biodiversity makes Calthorpe Broad a significant ecological area.
