Broxbourne Woods National Nature Reserve

Broxbourne Woods National Nature Reserve, spanning 239.1 hectares, is located west of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire. As the county's only National Nature Reserve and a Special Area of Conservation, it encompasses Hoddesdonpark Wood, Wormley Wood, Broxbourne Wood, and Bencroft Wood. This diverse habitat features extensive sessile oak and hornbeam woodlands and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, offering a rich environment for various wildlife species. Visitors can expect to see a variety of butterflies, with peak sightings of the Meadow Brown, Ringlet, and Red Admiral occurring in August. The best time for observation is around 01:00, particularly during this peak month. Additionally, early spring offers opportunities to spot Orange-tips and Peacocks, while November may reveal Grey Herons.
