Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve

Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve, located near Bardney in Lincolnshire, encompasses a collection of small woodlands, including the notable Cocklode Wood, which features the best surviving spread of medieval limes in England. This diverse habitat is primarily dominated by Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata) and is managed by the Forestry Commission. The reserve is significant, containing about a quarter of the county's ancient woodland and offers a visitors' centre at Chambers Wood Farm. Wildlife enthusiasts can look for various moss species, particularly in March when activity peaks, making it an ideal time for visits. Notable species include Cape Thread-moss and Elegant Silk-moss, both observed around midnight. Additionally, the Six-spotted Pot Beetle can be spotted in May, with the best viewing time around 1:00 AM.
