Banagher Glen National Nature Reserve

Banagher Glen National Nature Reserve, located south of Dungiven in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, is a significant area of ancient oak and ash woodlands, designated as a National Nature Reserve since 1974. This Special Area of Conservation supports a rich diversity of native flora and fauna, with vibrant bluebells carpeting the forest floor in spring. The reserve also provides essential habitats for various species, including butterflies and birds like the peregrine falcon and buzzards. Visitors can expect to see a variety of butterflies, with the Speckled Wood peaking in August, alongside other species such as the Ringlet and Silver-washed Fritillary. July is particularly active for butterflies like the Meadow Brown and Green-veined White.
