Rogerstown Nature Reserve is located within the inner Rogerstown estuary, featuring a narrow, shallow estuary with extensive mudflats exposed at low tide. Originally reclaimed grazing land, the area is now being restored to saltmarsh, which plays a crucial role in supporting diverse birdlife. The reserve offers a mix of brackish grasslands and inter-tidal creeks, providing essential roosting and feeding sites for numerous wintering wildfowl and waders. Wildlife enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of species throughout the year. In winter, look for Golden Plover, Lapwing, Curlew, and Black-tailed Godwits among others, while summer brings breeding Lapwings and visiting songbirds such as Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs. The best time to visit is during the winter months for the highest bird activity, but the reserve is open year-round, with specific access to hides during weekends from September to March.
