Puffin Island is an uninhabited, steep-sided island off the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland, rising to 145 meters. Known for its dramatic cliffs, the reserve is a vital breeding ground for Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, and Kittiwakes during the summer months. Access is restricted and requires written permission from BirdWatch Ireland, but the island can be viewed from licensed boat tours operating from Valentia Island. Wildlife enthusiasts can witness the bustling activity of Puffins returning to their burrows with sandeels in their beaks during the summer. Although sightings data is limited, visitors may also observe the nocturnal return of thousands of Manx Shearwaters to their nests after dark. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the island's avian inhabitants are most active.
